Had not seen this before and of all places to see it. I guess a Smart would make sense considering the lack of interior space. Maybe they pile the miles on and don’t want to be with out a full size spare when on a road trip. Kinda cool.

I hope this becomes the next tuner mod car fad thing.

There’s a kit to do this to Jeep Commanders, the lift up liftgate makes it basically impossible to mount to the liftgate so it connects from a trailer hitch or a custom bumper.

Those things have been around for a while. It’s basically the solution for the folks who don’t want to sacrifice interior room while having a spare tyre. There’s another version that bolts into the tow bolts...though you really don’t want to hang something on those.

Can’t you just pick it up and carry it out of any sticky situation it could get itself into?

Only problem with it is it covers part of the license plate which could get you a ticket in some places.

I’ve been watching WreckTrek on Netflix, I like the carriage bolts through the sheetmetal soulution;

I’ve seen a number of kits for vehicles that do this. I’ve debated getting one, but the ones I’ve seen don’t really seem to be worth the cost.

5 Lug spare on a Smart car. That’s going to do you a ton of good.

Turbo squirrel makes a good point notice anything fishy about that wheel? Must just be a cheesy hub cap all smarts are 3 lug right?

That appears to be a 5 lug hubcap on top of a 3 lug steelie. lol :)

Good eye!!! It’s common for the spare tyre-carrying smart owners to buy a front steelie wheel and put a front-sized tyre on it.

Of course, some folks don’t like how the steelies look so they put hubcaps on them. Generally though, they put the smart aluminum hubcaps on them and not generic 5 lug hubcaps. :)
